Blood transfusions to make the weight?

Do some fighters use blood transfusions to make the weight by having blood ****** out of them just before the weigh in and injected back into them after. It seems a simple foolproof way of making the weight and difficult to detect. Is it against the rules and can it be tested for?

Blood doping is actually increasing the amount of red blood cells present in the blood stream, not the same as what he's asking.

The answer is no. Blood only compromises 7% of your body weight. To extract enough to make a significant change to your weight would be astronomically bad for your health, and possibly fatal. The risk is not on par with the reward unless you're extremely crucial for a weight limit and need to lose .2-.4 of a pound and water weight just isn't cutting it.

Blood weighs a little over 8 pounds per gallon. When you donate blood you're donating one pint which is about 1 pound.

I don't know what a safe amount of blood one can remove but I'm fairly certain one can safely give 2 pints if you're fully hydrated (that would be 2+ pounds). Of course, if you're massively dehydrated giving 2 pints would probably be very harmful.
