  • Interval sprints on max inclines on treadmill / up hills

    I highly recommend doing this.

I can work out for 1-2 hours with very little rest at a moderately intense pace, but I did a simple one mile this AM on the treadmill at max incline (15) for the whole time with interval sprints and I was spent. Must be a hell of a way to get in shape.

That sounds more like torture than a workout lol. But yeah that does sound like a hell of a workout. I will definitely try it out.

I far prefer my hill reps or interval sessions to be outdoors in the fresh air than on a treadmill. But if that's what you prefer.......

At 5 weeks out from the bout I used to run 8 to 10 telephone polls then sprint 1 or 2 lengths! All of the fighters I trained employed the same method too.
A machine is needed when the weather outside is below freezing and the ground is frozen, snow, ice, or both will get you hurt and sick. If theres no field house to take advantage of or a large gym facility theres nothing wrong with machines!!
Incline are excellant but you need to beware of your knees, shins and back when working them. I don't care for decline work at all to much friction everywhere. In my home town we were on the shoreline so beaches were avalible and running in the sand starting on the waters edge then going deep in the sand then finishing at the waters edge is the workout that told you where you were at!
As a young fighter I loved to road work, it afforded me time to get right physically & mentally and by the time fight nite came I knew no one out worked me. "What you do in training is who you are come fight nite"!
        Ray.

That is one hell of a workout, but I know for a fact that it works wonders on your legs. Back in track and field in high school, we'd have our sprinters do these drills uphill. It gives you Manny Pacquiao style calves and some really explosive movement, if you know how to use those feet.
