I think it's soon, I've trained for six months and I feel ready now but I wasn't 3 months ago. I don't know how much you've sparred in 3 weeks that your coach thinks you can compete but I think you can go ahead and fight regardless though. You still get a lot of experience and you'll get a confidence boost. However, if you're worried about losing I wouldn't do it until you feel no doubts. A loss in the amateurs is nothing to be ashamed of, we are after all, amateurs. Keep training get those miles under your legs and you'll feel a lot more sure about yourself.

Yeah I'm also going to explore some other boxing gyms the one I'm at now doesn't seem to have enough structure IMO. I do best when I'm told what to do and the coaches don't seem to have enough time for everyone.

I would guess the Gloves still have a novice division and that used to be 0 to 9 fights! Someone mentioned that a J. O. kid (junior olympics boxing) could fight at novice but that vwould be a jack azz trainer who would enter a seasoned J.O. in with green guys! Its been done before.
If you have a solid jab and can keep your hands up and a work a strong 1/2 and you have ballz you could do ok if your willing to be first and be in solid shape! Many times the novice class has alot of guys who aren't sure if competition is for them and their trainers want to see how they respond under fire. How they act leading up to a fight and what they do after, win or lose! Its very much a proving ground that could be tested with the bare minimal techniques! Thats the beauty of the "novice class"!
I can't tell you to do it or pass without seeing you so its up to you and your trust in the trainer.
Ray.
