There aren't just different types of jabs, but t here are different types of jabs used for different purposes.

The basic "Get Him Off of You" Hard Jab to the face
The "Stab Jab", hard jab to the body
The "Up Jab" to the face (sneaky since it comes from low angle)
The "Pawing" Jab to the face to distract the opponent
The "Decoy" jab thrown softly and slow to the face to relax the opponent just before a much harder and faster straight power punch follows
The "Set Up" jab thrown to the body to get opponent to drop his hands so you can come up stairs
The "Stick" jab - leaving the jab out there on the opponent's face to blind him, keep him from punching or set up punches to the body
The "Stop All That Shiet" jab - a step in, hard jab to stop an aggressive opponent's offense
