  • vs fast fighter

Im sure there's a lot of different views on this but from the mroe wiser / advanced folks what do you think are the best ways when boxing someone to neutralize their speed? specifically a fast fighter ie someone like pacquiao, shorter, very fast.....just wondering any different approaches to this?

Timing, as well as being steps ahead of your opponent and being able to know his habits and make accurate predictions of what they're going to do.

Thats actually part of why Mayweather is so dominant over people, yeah hes fast n all that but he also knows what youre going to do and reacts accordingly. A PERFECT example of that in the Marquez fight where Mayweather was getting out the way of overhand rights before Marquez even seemed to know he was going to throw em.

Develop your timing. Timing beats speed.

Having real great timing, footwork, and head movement to counter him.

            Pressure.

Make him work. he'll slow down eventually. Gas him out.

but then, pressure fighting is an artform you barely see correctly done these days, guys take too many shots coming forward - this isn't pressure fighting

              Exactly!!

If I couldn't out box him I would turn it into a brawl. The faster guys can be tougher to out box, if need be jump on him and don't let up until the ref pulls you off of him or you hear the bell. Then when you hear the next bell jump on him again and repeat.

I found the faster guys, for some reason, to lack the proper gas to finish a whole fight brawling. Fighting that way (brawling) can be taxing in every way, just make sure that you have prepared properly in the gym and you could 'own his heart'.

These cats need time to breathe, they are used to 'boxing' people, not brawling them. When they finish up on their sizzling fast combos jump right back on them, don't let them breathe. When their mind is used to the satisfaction, the couple of breathes of fresh air it normally gets when boxing is no where to be found after their sizzling combos, his mind will know this and it will become compoundingly uncomfortable. Their mind is knowing that it is uncomfortable while trying to compute the uncomfortable visions and physical discomfort of you jumping all over his ass.

Test these fast cats. If it seems like they are passing than you test them again by different means. If you can't out box them than stay on top of them and turn it into a war............ Rockin'
