  • Unique ways to build stamina?

I was wonder besides from the generic ways such as roadwork etc what other techniques increase stamina? like for instance running at altitude, running with a mouth piece, training with heavier gloves etc? I'm interested to see what Paul Williams regime looked like, he could throw so many punches.

Power Lifting- HEAVY weights low reps... It will help you're cardio and power.. Get out of the boxing gym from time to time..... Its all about re-shocking your muscles and mind this will help you in the ring.

It will help you on the bag, mitts, sparring, and you're running.... You will have be able to throw more combos and will be able to move all over the ring a lot easier and will have the energy to do so. Throwing more punches in bunches is more of a mental thing but this might help give you the confidence to do so....Boxing gyms don't like evolving but I'm telling you this is the way to go...

Roadwork is fine but if you want real cardio sprints are the way to go you want to keep you're heart rate up during you're workout...

Here is a sample workout I do on the track that might help

      *Stretch
      *Speed Ladder
      *calisthenics
      *400-800 meter Jog
*10-20.... 100 meter Sprints with 30 second break in between
      *10.. 50 meters sprints
*100 Box jumps "A great tool for explosive power"
*An AB circuit for 10-15 mins "Self Explanatory"
      *800 meter Cool down run
*Stretch and to the gym get some rounds in....

Other programs to look into are cross fit, yoga, and trx.... there is plenty more but if you want to get that cardio and trying to find an edge in my opinion this is the best way to go.. I am believer of over training and with rest, diet, and drinking alot of water its the way to go. I am in the boxing gym all the time and in my opinion to grow you need to throw in different training from time to time.

I am a huge advocate in over training I believe there in no such thing with the proper rest and diet... I think more importantly it helps you mentally and to take shots.. It boost you're natural testosterone which is a good thing in combat sports...

Heavy weights work to i will try to get you some literature and videos on the subject... Trust me a lot of coaches think I'm an idiot but i haven't lost many fights coaching and fighters come to me.....Hopefully it will be proving on a bigger level this February hopefully we don't get bounced off another card.

I came up as a kid doing boxing and wrestling and people gotta understand the overtraining in wrestling is because you can have multiple matches in a day or week.... This is the same for boxing at golden gloves and the national tourneys, it helps man..

Last example- Johnny Hendrix vs GSP last month Johnny lifts heavy watch his training video GPS dose body weight excises GSP got handled..GSP won but that was the NSAC that screwed him. I know that is flawed logi hahac but in my opinion its the way to go... Boxing gyms need to start taking many updated fitness and nutritional tips from mma gyms. Golden Boy and Top Rank also need to take the from the UFC and make the best fighter fight each other and have the up and comers on the under cards cause they don't if you have ever seen an Al hayman or Bob Arum under card its complete bulls*it they fly in these bums with 500 records to get knocked out by there signed 5 star blue chiper and i don't like it...
Wow im done ranting anyways merry Christmas and good luck don't lift heavy if you don't want just do try the cross fit or trx then cause it will help.

Guys like paul Williams are naturally gifted. Cardio like power and speed is mostly genetics.

over training is very real. Also i would suggest light weights tons of reps and don't pay attention to any of them ufc guys they use PEDS and are still unable to go 3 rounds with out passing out at the end

haha boxers use PEDS to bud.... Athletes always want to find that edge in every sport and they will never stop doing it. "Marquez Pacquiao 4" Juan was defiantly on the sauce... I'm not gonna argue with you're high reps theory but you can't just do that and expect to have great results it all about switching it up re shocking you're muscles is the key to growth.. Which then makes you a stronger and better cardio. It doesn't mean you look like a bodybuilder.... I suggest ironalex try out all the suggestions and see what works for you, everyone is different

                    Boxing needs to evolve

Good luck with you're training keep us updated.
