  • Help With Hip Rotation

    Hey guys,

Just a quick question. Basically when I throw a one-two combination i find it awkward to throw my right hand.

My stance is basically: Left hand a 10 o'clock and my right hand at 4 o'clock.
Whenever I throw my jab i rotate my hips so im now 11 o'clock and 5 o'clock. Because of this, I find it really awkward to throw and land my right hand and whenever I dont rotate my hips when I jab and only push forward, i feel its so weak it cant dent dough (lol)...

So my question is, what should I do? Any technique tips? Should I rotate my hip when i jab or shouldnt I?

    Cheers

i only started boxing for a few months, but it might sound like your stance is too linear? try squaring up a little more maybe?
OR just watch someone with similar style and try to find your own mistakes in the mirror.

Dont stand too square on mate or else you will be off balance, try to be comfortable with it, relax yourself. Always rotate at the hips and on the ball of your foot asif you was pushing a car. This is where your power will come from. Have some bend in your knees and rotate through when throwing the right, turning the right foot. Try and practice in the mirror, it works honest. Throw the one two and hold the position and look at yourself how your set, reset and do again until you throw it well

don't square up and bring your back foot up right before you let the right hand go. You're probably stepping with your jab and leaving the other foot back which causes you to reach allowing limited hip rotation.

with the back foot brought up abit, while throwing your right hand, you will find fuller hip rotation. The foot lands, pushing through, when the punch lands.

But honestly, I'm just guessing here. I wouldn't know nothin' 'bout no hip rotation. .......... Rockin'

Ahhhh Yes, exactly...this was exactly wrong with my technique/stance, I was too linear and I never focused on actually stepping and pushing off with my right...I just hip rotated but was awkward as hell...cheers guys

Remember to rotate your shoulders too. Not just your hips. Jack Dempsey called it the "shoulder whirl."
