  • No opportunity for uppercut

Even though i like to fight up close, i just dont the seem to get an opportunity for a clean landed uppercut. I throw them in a flurry combination with hooks yet they just dont land under the chin where im aiming.
Could it just be all my opponents just have a good defense, do i just suck at it or is it normal that uppercuts are just hard to land?

As far as answering your question, it could be a combo of many things.

As far as giving you advice, create the opportunity. You CAN create opportunity's by manipulating your opponent with punches you know.

And sometimes its just better to not spend your focus on trying to create, but instead exploiting your opponents weaknesses and taking what he's giving you. If he's selling out to block the uppercut, don't spend all your time trying to force it, but exploit it. And by exploiting it, he'll make adjustments, inevitably opening up chances for the uppercut or whatever.

It's most likely because your head is lower that your opponents. Uppercuts can be thrown at close or medium range, even though medium range shots are risky.

Try to lure your opponent to bend down and "walk into" your uppercuts. That's what I do and I'm really good at throwing them and landing them. I get inside, **** the left hook and come back with a nice, short right uppercut when he bends over and centers his head.

People have issues with uppercuts and hooks to the body because they don't commit or can't set it up. Make him fall into it instead of you looking for it.

Flick a jab, loop the right hand--pull the steam off right before it makes contact--and then follow it with a full force left uppercut. Some aggressive fighters will walk into the punch thinking the right was the end of the combination.

honestly, i only use the uppercut when I know my opponent is hurt and won't see it coming, that's the only time it's appropriate.. sometimes I will throw a left jab- left uppercut just because it's kind of an unusual combination and the uppercut will sometimes connect because they don't expect it.

sometimes the Tyson right hook to the body, right uppercut to the head works great.. but in general I tend to just not use the shot

I didn't read the other comments man but I can speak on my behalf coming from over 100 AM fights a long with a few pro fights as well.. I am a boxer/puncher and I love the uppercut but for starters man a proper uppercut on the inside when brawling... is dropping down on your ass and bringing all your weight and hips into it.

Normally if I got a guy going back and he goes into what I call ear muff defense ill tap him with a combo and throw my uppercut.. When I throw this type of uppercut on the inside I put a lot of stream and pepper on it if it lands well the fight is over lol(i hope right) if it does not land it will surely bring that head up and ill throw a overhand right with the same hand that i threw the uppercut with..

Try this combo man when u got a guy on the ropes or blocking with both hands..

            1(jab)

            2(right hand)

            3(left hook)

4(right uppercut throw it hard and short)

5.(bring that right hand back after the uppercut and turn it over and throw a overhand right/right hand)

6(after the right hand finish the combo with a left hook)

Ive caught so many people with that combo when thrown at the proper time.. One they never expect another punch coming from the same hand after the uppercut and if I happen to land either the uppercut or right hand I most likely will finish or hurt them even more with the left hook to finish the combo. Punches n bunches baby

No opportunity for uppercuts? Whadahya mean no opportunity for uppercuts? There is ALWAYS an opportunity for an uppercut.

I throw upper cuts from 6 feet away just to let my opponent know WTF I'm a do to him when he gets close. I especially love when my upper cut is thrown with such force that is lifts me off my feet and spins me completely around.

I'm a let y'all in on some very valuable boxing wisdom...

                Upper cuts > Jabs.

you don't need to hit the chin to make an uppercut effective. You can throw it in combination like Pacquiao does to seperate your opponents head from his peekaboo guard to set up a hook/straight.

I'm like young_robbed though, I don't really throw uppercuts until I have my opponent backed up on the ropes.

What about turning the fist vertical so it can slip better thru there defense?
