  • glove size

hi im 5'7 and 128lbs with a rather small frame for a 20 year old..
so i was wondering what size of a glove i should get (i plan to buy a Twins Special from muaythaistuff)...
i always hear that i should get a 16 oz one for sparring, but ive tried a 16 oz with handwraps on, it felt kinda loose(?)
    help please!!

I'm exactly the same size as you, and I know I actually made a thread exactly like this in the past. Rather funny.

But I promise you, I have every type of glove you can find. I could never figure out why gloves didn't fit correctly. Can I take a guess and say you can't naturally make a complete fist?

I have multiple pairs of Winnings, Grants, Rivals, and IMF Ringside's. And I'll tell you what it is... It's the way you wrap your hands. People over-complicate hand wrapping. Just get some mexican handwraps from Title/Ringside and wrap where it feels loose. You need wraps that are long enough, as well. You should have a good amount of slack when you feel your fists are wrapped well, and finish it off on the forearms. Also, don't go in-between the fingers. It does nothing but rub against the webbings and tears the skin in the general area.

not too sure what you meant by "can't naturally make a complete fist",, u mean within the glove? 'cause without gloves, i can make a fist perfect.
and the loose part of gloves im talking about is the forearm area, it seems like the glove size was built for my calves haha, does wrapping really make that big of a difference @_@?

      thanks for the reply

With modern attached thumb gloves you will always have problems closing your fist.

If you are sparring- you know, hitting people- you need to be able to make a fist. Or else you will hurt your hands. the weight of the glove has nothing to do with the size of the glove, that I am aware of.

Yes, get 16 oz. I ended up getting ganglion cysts in both of my wrists because someone told me to get 10 oz gloves on here. I was an impressionable 15 year old who didn't know better. Don't make the same mistakes.

No, I meant you're not able to make a normal fist with gloves on. Not without. If you have loose areas of a glove, compensate by placing more handwrapping in the that area that essentially contains dead space. If the wrist area is the problem, I highly suggest you get gloves with laces. They are precise protection and aren't limited to the length of the velcro strap.
