The boxer / coach relationship should be based on mutual trust and respect.

If a boxer went to another gym to spar without my permission I wouldn't be very happy. I'm sure most coach's would agree.

I allow our senior boxers to go to other gyms to spar on their own if I can't make it for whatever reason. However, I would only allow them to go to the gym on their own if 1). I know and trust the coach, 2). I know who they will be sparring and I have previously watched them spar (so I know my lad can hold his own if needed). I always arrange the sparring for them too.

THis is kinda chicken vs egg issue. The topic starter implied that the coach does not care much about the lack of sparring. My reply was within the context of his question, not generally

See if your coach will organize something, often if the gyms are a city apart or so, the coaches probably have a friendly relationship and want whats best for their guys. If you walk in there by yourself and ask about sparring, you better have built a good relationship with the trainers at the other gym. If your coach doesn't care about sparring, you may want to look towards joining a different gym anyway. I'm not implying he isn't a good coach, but sparring is essential if you want to progress past recreational boxing.

If a trainer isn't giving you what you feel you need express your feelings and try to resolve the problem. If nothing is agreed then move on.
Any fighter that worked under my gym name and fought wearing my gyms uniformed gear who was venturing to another gym would be released from his membership immediately. It happened once in all the years of team being an organized sanctioned group.
As far as the pros, Bye! I held NO contract with pro fighters, they never wore any of my gyms colors, even the ones I developed or helped to develop.
The vast majority of pros I worked with hired me to work with them or was hired by a matchmaker or promoter to work their fights!!!! Ray
