  • Which is more difficult...

Being the bigger, but slower guy fighting in a naturally SMALLER weight class than you should be (Chavez Jr)

    or

Being the smaller, but faster guy fighting in a naturally BIGGER weight class than you should be (Mayweather Jr

Take making weight out of the equation.

speed is a power on it own. the power to get in, get your shots off and get out of the way.

I always dug sparring guys bigger, their slow shots are so easy to pickup with your eyes coming in at you. you get out of the way, dig a couple of shots and roll out............. Rockn'

I agree...I've been much more comfortable sparring bigger (but slower) guys than smaller but faster ones. One of the reasons I don't fully understand so many fighter's efforts to kill themselves to make smaller weights for nominal size advantages.

Eddie Chambers was a great example of this. He looked HORRIBLE in with a guy just as fast as he is. That was always his advantage against heavy weights.

Well it all depends. The old adage is that a great big man will beat a great small man every time.

Size is an advantage, or at least can be. For me, questions like this can't be applied as blanket statements, as it depends on the fighter.

Holyfield was never a true HW, but used his speed to win fights. Then you get a guy like Rid**** Bowe who was just a giant, and it was apparent his size was a serious advantage against smaller HW's.

I think Chavez Jr uses his size as an advantage because of his chin and power. If he was to move up and fight Ward let's say, I think he loses and loses easy.

Pac on the other hand used his smaller, faster style to beat guys who weighed close to 170 on fight night.

        It just depends.
