  • How to take a punch well?

Ok its best to avoid them, but sooner or later you are gonna get hit, so whats the best way to take that punch to minimise your chances of being KOed/ minimise taking damge?

    1. See it coming

    2. Have your chin tucked

    3. Roll your head with it to take off the impact

    4. Train to strengthen your neck

    5. Don't be tense. Stay relaxed

Everything beyond that is probably just a matter of simply having a good chin.

keep your chin tucked and your hands up to start.

truly rolling punches is an extremely advanced move, especially if you're looking to counter off of it. it's something "old time fighters," mastered. plenty of full time, pro fighters can't do it properly.

the best i've ever seen roll punches was roberto duran. it was a tool in his box that he'd use throughout a round. he'd make stuff happen off of it. he'd do it on purpose.

      some other good ones were:
henry armstrong. lou ambers does quite well in the included link as well.

      james toney
      rocky marciano
      emanuel agustus (agustus? agustus.)
      archie moore
      evander holyfield

        Nothing.

Like your chin tucked etc helps but when you're getting clocked up side the head. Your chin has nothing to do with it.

I just got done sparring a 190+ puncher. Well not just done, it was maybe 6 something PM west coast time. I got clocked ****ing hard 3 or 4 times. There ain't shyt you can do to really take the punch well. Side of the left eyebrow / head area. Then again he only hit me 3 or 4 times with 2 or 3 body jabs for 3 rounds. So 7 landed punches total for 3 rounds.

I just tried to stay composed. That's about all I could do. I could see the punch coming but really, staying composed is your best bet. Don't panic and don't allow the fight or flight response to kick in.

Stay calm and move. Create distance. Take a breath. Relax and get back in it.
