It's weird because it has nothing to do with body build, muscles, none of that. It's just something they have, like being able to run really fast.
At a gym I worked at once, there was this guy that would come in every so often and just flail at the heavy bag, looked horrible. I talked him into letting me catch him one night and he hit un-Godly hard. He was a tall, thin, muscular guy, but his mechanics were so wrong.

My cousin was that way, he was tall, skinny dude and used to knock out football players at house parties. His power was incredible and he had zero muscle tone.

Proper training (in boxing or anything else) is to maximize whatever natural ability is there.

Many of history's most gifted fighters never reached their potential. Many of history's fighters with average gifts became greats.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler, IMO, had no exceptional athletic ability. His gifts were willpower, willingness to train and sacrifice, a great chin and incredible toughness. But if he didn't have the drive to make himself the best he could be, no one would have ever heard of him.

hagler moved very well, and was a very versatile boxer. if he needed to he could get on his toes and box. he also had a freakish build, with amazing length of arms for such a stocky frame. he also had good power in both hands, and an iron chin. he had lots of gifts.

all of the greats were gifted in one way or many ways.

I agree but I do think it has a lot to do with natural ability. Some kids can get footwork down really fast, some can understand defense really well.

Lol it is not how hard you train though how you train that matters.
