    So I'll try to be as brief as I can.


    Over a week ago (about 11-12 days) I'm sparring a larger and stronger opponent, everything is going fine until I rolled too much on my left side and he catches me with a huge kidney/back shot. I've taken punches there before but this really shook me up, I felt the pain in my hips and in my legs immediately. The guy noticed this and soon apologized, I told him it was fine and we kept sparring as I thought the pain would go away, went another two rounds. After the session I'm doing a bit of shadow boxing and feeling it a bit, but it wasn't until I started doing some mitts soon after that I really felt the pain when I was throwing a left hook/uppercut. That night when I got home, the pain was almost unbearable (didn't urinate any blood though) and I decided to take a rest for the week. I didn't last much, as I started working out again (no sparring) about four days later and up until now I still feel a bit of a nudging pain, but nothing like the first few days. Now I have a few questions:

    Is this normal?
    Should I have rested longer?
    I'm visiting another town tomorrow and will drop by another boxing gym, would it be wise to spar?
    Anything I can do to strengthen that area for future blows?

    It's really been bugging me, not so much the pain but the fact that I believed I was in better condition to take such a shot.

    Maybe a little muscle spasm in there...try to kneed it out by rolling on a medicine ball.

        If that's the case (which I think it is) don't be alarmed if it hurts a bit when you roll over it...that's normal. Just bare through it and it will release...stretch 1st by touching your toes. It might take a little time for it to release but it eventually will. If you can...get someone to put there elbow deep into it...if not just do it yourself with a medicine ball.

          Rest it! Check your blood pressure and recheck it to make sure theres no wavering! Kidney problems can be very serious and the best treatment is rest. Ray

            For sure man, I did a bit of that today and it seemed to ease up, I know this lady that gives messages (no, not in that way) and I'll see what she can do. Once again thanks for the advice homie.

              Thanks for your input Ray, I'll definitely be checking it tomorrow. Against my better judgement I went and trained today, including some light sparring, and was okay but the nudging pain is still present. My whole life basically revolves around being active so it's pretty hard to sit on the sidelines and feel like crap at home, but I know resting is the best option before I re injure myself.
