  • cutting weight safely

i've never had to cut weight because i've always been comfortable boxing at my natural weightclass but as i've grown older i no longer have the size advantages i used to have. i thought i'd search how to cut weight safely as i only have a few lbs to lose to get in the weight class below.
    i came across this http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog...ut-weight-ufc/

in the article he says he drank 2 gallons on sunday that adds up to 9 litres of water in one day! sure he means 2 litres right?

Nope 2 gallons, its something to do with drinking a mass amount of water at the start and taking it down to hardly anything on the last few days, it helps flush the body out. Pretty dangerous if done incorrectly I would guess.

Very dangerous if you are not use to dunking this much water. Read up on water toxicity because it can be deadly.

Some people considered that their muscle mass increases with the help of protein supplements that contain certain blends of amino acids, such as creatine and glutamine.....

Well im not sure how to word this gently, so ill just say it and be blunt, but ufc/mma'ers are leagues below boxers in the evolution of weight cutting. They do some barbaric crazy ****, and ultimately their performance does take a hit, aswell as a lot of them getting very sick, etc.

20-30 lbs in the last 5 days is incredibly ******, incredibly unprofessional, and is counterproductive. All the days leading up to the '5 last days', you should be focusing on getting your body in peak condition. A great/strict diet, a lot of exercise from training/ conditioning for the fight, and your body fat should drop.

The last 5-7 days should be nothing more than looking to take off 10 or so pounds water weight, and this is where water manipulation comes in. You should be drinking a lot of water during your training phase, and during this last water manipulation phase you'll wnlant to drink even more. I can't give a specific number on how much, everybodys body is different aswell as how much water they had been drinking, but 1-2 gallons is a general guesstimate. The idea is to get your body used to/needing to pee all the time. The last 2-3 days, drastically cut out the water intake, and switch to distilled water. Distilled water has a lot of the nutrients stripped from it, so it helps prevent your body from absorbing it as much. Your body will be used to peeing all the time, and you'll drain your body of a lot of water weight.

But yeah, should only be looking to cut out 7-10 lbs in the final week, and not some crazy crash diet as if you haven't been preparing/training for the fight.
