In fact it actually ends up costing me quite a bit of money to coach - mainly fuel cost to and from the gym and also when taking lads sparring.

Edit ... and I have bought plenty of equipment / training aids from my own pocket too.

      I don't mind though - I enjoy it !!!
And Gauze... Fighters can't remember to bring gauze to save their lives. Fortunately our fighters (mma) always donated a percentage of their purse back into the gym, for equiptment etc. (This was totally voluntary, the first fight we had, our guy donated a portion of his purse, and it just became a tradition that our fighters upheld, it was never even said aloud) Honestly, I liked to think of it as more of a co-op.

The way I always figured it, I was actually saving money by not having to join a fitness gym.
If you want to lose weight and get in shape, try keeping up and working out with 16-20 year old kids.

some times it is good to not just stick a fighter in there from the start. you want a guy to get in shape first and then go slow. a little mit work, heavy bag work speed bag etc for his/her protection. usually if a guy is impatient he will just not come back. relax and be more vocal. tell the trainers how you feel. be careful what you wish for. when we walked in a gym in the 70's you would be thrown to the wolves and not be as ready as you thought. i have seen many not come back through the doors of a gym from finding out that the gloves hurt or they really didn't have the heart in the first place.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I told the coach am interested in competing and he was fine with it. Only thing now is its ''Off-Season'' Which means no training over the summer, which isn't good, I didn't even know clubs had Off-Seasons anyone want to give insight into it? Also apart from road work if its off for the summer anyone got any advice to help me to advance in any way possible training wise?

NO TRAINING IN OFF SEASON... what a joke. I'd find another gym if I was you pal. Where are you based?

It's nothing out of the ordinary in the UK mate. Many clubs close down for at least some of the off season (a couple of weeks to a month or so), including some of our top clubs. Gives the boxers and coaches a chance to rest after a long hard season.

It doesn't necessarily suggest there is anything wrong with the club.

I doubt the club will be closed for the entire off season anyway. They will need to get the boxers back in the gym and get their fitness up before the season starts plus most clubs need the income from subs.

Yeah, the gym am in is definitely a class gym and easily best in the area but also agree with above the rest should be optional. Still am hoping its still open just without coaches taking the classes am guessing? Am going to check tomorrow, if not I guess its a lot of jogging in the summer for me haha.

I could definitely see some reasoning behind this. During the summer months attendance for our MMA gym would decline drastically. Guys would still shell out for the dues, but they wouldn't attend regularly.... young guys and the summer you know.
