Golden Gloves West Palm Beach

Just finished a boxing marathon this weekend, working the corner in Atlantic City for the FNF and then flying down to West Palm to work with 3 of my kids for the golden gloves.

We worked really hard and went 3-0 in the tourney. I had my 123lber, 132lber and heavy weight all win on both days. The heavy weight scored a KO in the first fight and a close decision against a very skilled lefty in the second fight.

It was a really good turnout and a lot of good young fighters. The venue was a little weird, because it was huge but they had 1 ring which ****** and made everything really slow.

Outside of that, it was good and I still love amateur boxing very much.

Also hung out with Keith Thurman and I have to say, I have met many pro boxers in my time and he has to be one of the humblest, nicest guys in the sport. He isn't concerned with recognition, he calls it like it is and wants to just be a good fighter.

It's nice to hear humility from someone who is doing so well. So many trainers and fighters in this sport are in it for the wrong reasons and just want to be seen and talked about, he really wants to better his craft and become a world champion the right way.

All in all a great weekend.

I'm in Ft. Lauderdale but there was gyms from all over Florida. There was gyms from Tallahassee, Tampa, Jax all over.

I was asking because I have a couple guys I was looking to get some work for in the near future. They've already sparred just about everyone here in Duval. Hard to really get them GOOD work up here.

Duval is so far, I would love to hook up with you if we were closer. We work with a gym in West Palm, but that's about as far as we go because it's 45 minutes away.

We also work with a lot of gyms in Miami too.

Congrates on your kids!!! One ring is a slow event theres no doubt about that I remember multi-rings with horns, whistles and gongs going off to start and finish rounds, everything but a bell! hahahaha!!! Our Region One gloves was a big event in the 70s and 80s and we ran Silver Mittens for the J.O. kids just before the Gloves, great event! Continued success. Ray

thanks fellas, it feels good to be with these kids all the way to this level so far. Next year my 122lb fighter will be turning pro and I'm excited to see what he can do.

It's hard work but it pays off when you see the smile on these kids faces.
