  • Why is the jab cross so important for orthadox and not so much for southpaw?

Ok the idea as an orthadox is to use the jab to off balance your opponent and then nail him with a cross when he cant fight back.

The idea as a southpaw is to put your self on the outside of your opponent where he is vunerable to the cross and you simply lead with a cross without the jab.

    BUT

When you are on the outside as a southpaw YOU are vunerable to the Jab, and since the jab easily beats the cross to the mark and off balances you, why isnt it better for a southpaw to stay on the inside and jab cross just like an orthadox fighter?

Because you want to position yourself so you can use you rear hand while the orthodox guy aint in position to use his. Your right hand is what should make the orthodox guy hesitant to use his jab.

mostly because you don't want to eat right hands all day... If I'm understanding what you mean by inside and outside...

You understand perfectly, but surely your jab will get there all day before their cross, and if it does that means you have time to follow up since their balance is now off, so why try to land a lead cross when you are vunerable to the much faster jab?

So my right hand (im southpaw) should make the orthadox guy hesitant to use his jab, by right hand do you mean right hand parry of their left jab?

If he slips your jab, whats going to happen? You're going to eat a right to the face. If you mistime your jab, whats going to happen? You're going to eat a right to the face, If you throw a lazy jab . . .

Any sort of counter, he has a straight line to your face with the right... Use your footwork and don't give him anything...

Boxing isn't about one punch to beat another punch. Its taking all these different skill sets and combining them to give you the best chance to hit and not get hit.
