  • Is it possible to jab comming diagonally foward?

So I jab by pushing off my rear foot and this powers my arm. I dont jab using arm strength alone even if im stationary.

But im a southpaw and I was reccomend a combo of x2 jab while stepping diagonally foward and the throwing a cross.

But because im stepping diagonally the power of my leg is going diagonally right and I need to be jabbing diagonally left so it dosnt work.

I can circle but this is not what he said.

Can you work this out for me?

Hmm... It's hard to explain without showing. Maybe I think I know what you mean. Ok, basicLly you're stepping diagonally and your lead foot is basically stepping in towards/around their leg and basically jab in a similar fashion/footing then when you'd throw the cross. Basically I THINK (could be mistaken) he's trying to teach you to lead them INTO a short cross. The leg is pushing in (but not completely around) in a way that they'd want to step towards your left. Picture your jab being throw with the same motion as a "wind up" (for explanations sake) for your left hand. Like, jab-step, jab-step-cross right as you step down using the natural momentum from the jab and step to throw a short cross and trying to cut off one their escape routes (normally to an orthodox fighter's left which puts you both outside of their right and you within your left..ideally) simultaneously simce your footing is dominant keeping them from easily stepping to your right.

Sergio Martinez is a southpaw whom I believe does this and you should watch his feet to see if I understood you correct.

If you're pushing in, dont worry about not getting your back foot fully into your jab. Use the rest of your body for torque if youre throwing jt with authority. You can likewise use your back foot for torque AS you step and jab but you'll need good rhythm and timing (see Martinez).
