Obviously the ideal thing would be to do both, but let's say you had to choose between an hour of jumprope a day, or an hour of running a day. Which would be more beneficial?

Which is better for cardio, jumprope or running

I would say running.
Apart from the cardio aspect it also tests you mentally (boxers 'heart').
There are times when my lungs hurt, it feels like I'm breathing fire and I want to stop but I push myself and think "keep going, keep going, the other guy isn't going to stop"

Yeah but anything that pushes your endurance to the limit is gonna test you mentally, jumprope can do that too if you go long enough really
One thing that got me leaning towards jumprope over running though is the fact that having the cardio to keep going aint enough, your endurance and mental strength also has to be good enough to stay coordinated as well otherwise ull keep f--king up.
Being able to jumprope for an hour is probably more impressive than running for an hour at the same intensity. I don't know if it's more beneficial cardio wise though

If you wanted to compare the jumping rope and running for an hour of course the rope would be harder.

i'd recommend swimming 2 miles a day - better cardio and builds all kind of muscles throughout your body.

No, I've actually tested both forms of exercise with a heart rate monitor. Basically, skipping with a perceived similar level of intensity to running yields a lower heart rate.
to match a pretty good running pace over an hour in terms of skipping you'd have to do a shed load of double jumps for a comparable heartrate.
