How many hours do you train in the gym?

I'm going to start boxing in 2-3 months, I'm going to be using these few months to run to help increase my cardio, lift for strength, plyometrics etc. so the transition will be much easier and I won't show up all out of shape.

So, how many hours do you train in the gym? And how many days out of the week do you train and take off?

Also I'm uncertain of how many fighters are at the gym I'll be going to, no idea how many are in my weight class (I'll probably fight at around 160). Say there isn't any quality sparring, how am I supposed to gain fighting experience?

Go to the gym tonight - no reason to put it off.

You will improve your fitness on the job as well as increasing your boxing skills - everyday you put it off is a wasted day.

At 160, it is very likely you will have at least a few suitable sparring partners (i.e. between 140 and 180 lbs). However, I wouldn't worry about that at this stage, as the majority of people decide boxing isn't for them after getting hit hard a few times.

      Good luck.

when i was training i would train 3 times a day if i didn't have any work on , 2 hours each , i used to do a light run in the morning then medium pace run on a night time. all i would say is if your going to compete in this sport then you need to live the life of the sport no cutting corners or nothing , this sport will make you or break you it is like no other but most of all just enjoy it , i hope you give it your best shot as it is very self pleasing when all is going well good luck with it

If you have no working out / boxing experience I would not fight in 2- 3 months. You start to loosen up a bit after 2-3 months. I would wait around 6 months to a 1 year to fight hoenstly. But my I train about an 1 hour - 1 .5 hour a day for exercise but I want to start upping the intensity.

I train 1 and a half hours 3 times a week at the boxing gym then extra sparring on weekend if poss and all road work and sprints in my own time . That's all you need for 3 x 2's or even 3x3's

                    Valuev GOAT.

And yeah three times a day is a LOT wtf. For me it was always a run in the morning, then school, boxing for about 2 hours (every school day) and nothing on Sundays (family n church n s hit) and usually a sparring session most saturdays due to conflicting school schedules with certain guys (you can go in the am or PM in Mexico). When I was a tad older it was work and few hours and that's it...

I cant imagine ever doing three a days for hours each session. Not as an amateur. There's pro fighters who dont even get that much in.

But hey if it works for you and its been productive then more power to you... I worry about your body but different strokes for different folks.
