What does that exactly mean? I see on the forums and even the more seasoned guys at my gym say "he kept turning him" especially southpaws I hear this the most about.

As a southpaw myself Id like to know what this means exactly and than start doing it myself. Since im not even sure what It means I could already be doing it. but anyone?

I think it means to circle, basically moving off the center line causing your opponent to turn in order to face you. It gives you a superior angle and greater opportunity to land the punch, where as your opponent will have to turn first then punch.

James Toney does it at 1:08 of this vid:

Getting your opponent to show his "profile" (side of his face)(one eye) to turn him out!! You move (step out)(pivot), as he counter moves your punching!! Setting traps. Ray.

Just watch this fight. Pacquiao is a master of it. 1:06 is one example of many.

The old school technique would be pushing the hip when your inside and making sure the ref is on the opposite side of your hand!
But the whole idea is to PUNCH off the move. Method & Techniques! Ray.

Interesting POV. I always viewed turning a guy as just changing the angle on him, usually with footwork. But like most things in boxing, more than one way to skin a cat.

Anytime you get a profile look at your opponent you need to be punching. A profile stance puts your opponent in jepardy, he can't punch from it and anytime you can hit his side and jaw line with your straight shots is a huge plus!

I think you'll see Broner start using the inside pivot to punch off of. He has a very sharp trainer who is making a name for himself by developing young men through the amatuers! Should be fun to watch because Broner has the athletic abilities to perform alot of the techniques most fighters can't do! Ray.
