    Using eyes

Can some explain the phrase "he uses eyes for defense" or anything like that? Ive been coming across a few people saying that and I just wanted to know exactly what that means and how to start translating it to myself.
Ex Someone was talking about Austin Trout is a perfect example of someone with real good eyes my coach was telling me but I never really asked him what he meant

I take it they'd mean that he always maintains eye contact with his opponent. Mayweather does it the whole time.

it means that his eyes are trained to pick up and detect the slightest movements in an opponent that trigger responses from the fighter before that fighter even realizes that he's slipped or punched he's already slipped the punch or landed the counter............Rockin'

Once you train yourself to focus on your opponent, it becomes much easier to see punches coming which is the first step in defense. You can't defend what you don't see. Mayweather is obviously great at this. I hate to associate him with Mayweather so much, but if you look at Broner's eyes during the DeMarco fight...they are laser like. I think the biggest question is where to focus your eyes. I tend to look at the base of my opponent's neck in order to see when either shoulder moves to see punches coming.
