If you can't see the value in that style of mitt work, I have to wonder about your knowledge of the sport.

Keep in mind, mitts aren't an exercise in seeing how hard you can punch. Mitts are a great tool to build muscle memory and instincts. To develop punch combinations, defensive moves and footwork to the point where they become instinctive. Now with that said, if you can't see the value in that mitt work, I REALLY have to wonder about you.

Look at the beauty of how his trainer mixes in evasive head movements, footwork and counter punches into the routines? 2:47 - 2:54 almost made me wet myself lol. This is BEAUTIFUL mitt work.

In this particular video, and the other I mentioned, I don't see the value of those patty-cake punches. There is no point in not punching without impact, not to mention the effects on balance and movement if you do not turn your weight.
I have been involved in boxing for nearly 40years, as a teacher for nearly 22. In my estimation, the foundation of boxing is proper punching technique as it facilitates proper movement, and is the foundation of the ability to seamlessly integrate defense and offense. So I try to make mitt work as much like actual boxing as is possible. I don't see that in these videos.
You asked a very valid question and I will help you out as much as possible since I have been attacked by BarryRobsinon and ignored when I have asked a question of him.

You are 100% right in saying there's little benefit to that style of mitt work. It looks great and I don't think there is no benefit from it, it's great for working hand eye coordination and getting shape since it's great cardio. I personally think that you work the mitts the way you want to spar. You spar the way you fight. So the best way is to work the mitts to simulate sparring and fighting as much as possible.

In saying that, I personally have no issue with trainers using the fancy, choreographed, Mayweather type mitts. I think it looks great, it's good for media day when your on camera but I just hope that's not the only thing you someone is doing as a trainer. I'm sure Guzman isn't and since I have seen him personally here in Miami many times working out and sparring many of our guys from our gym, I can assure you that he trains in the proper way.

Good god you are in love with yourself......just answer the question. Do you have to put your face in every video? I couldn't imagine if you had ever fought, you would make Floyd Mayweather look like the most humble guy ever. Personally I have seen some of your training videos and think you teach some good things, I really do. Your not a bad trainer, but man, you need to get over yourself seriously. If you want the recognition, then you should train FIGHTERS from scratch to being world champs. Isn't that what being a boxer trainer is all about?

I made a video because I hate typing. I'm going to make another 1 now on why I generally don't answer questions on this forum. I really hope you watch this 1, listen, and respond intelligently. It will be up in half an hour.

P.S. I do love myself..would you prefer if I was suicidal?

OK great man but damn, you make like 30 minute videos, I can't sit here and watch that. I'm just saying, you can have a short answer and be concise in your point.

I have no issue with you man, I really don't. Like I said, I think you are a good trainer from certain points of view and not hating on you or knocking your hustle, but there is a difference between loving one's self and being narcissistic.

Classical Conditioning you should save for your students. I will always be myself. One day you will get on board that I'm a good person and enjoy helping people. For every 1 of You that thinks I'm a narcissist there are minimum 250 people that know that I'm good peoples. I appreciate the kind words however as my father says "after but(t) comes ****"

ie. Barry I think your a good trainer but(t)...

Where did I say you were a bad person?

Wow, this makes my point exactly.

You know what happens when the most beautiful girl at the prom KNOWS that she is the most beautiful girl and goes around telling everyone?

                She becomes ugly.

You can be literal all you want. In my opinion calling someone a narcissist = a bad person. Unless you meant narcissist in a positive light.

Anyway man pat yourself on the back. The purpose of this thread was Joan Guzman and his trainer training and the various kind of work they were doing on the mitts. You managed to make the post about me. Wow

You can thank me later, or better yet, make a 30 minute video about it.

                    Thanks in advanced there Champ

You know a guy has good hands when he's punching the mitts hard with mittens on like that. Not like Ward and Mayweather doing mitts with 18's on
