  • Philly shell defense videos?

Anyone have any videos on how to use this particular guard? I want to study it to compare to it to the traditional peek-a-boo

I never saw actual tutorials, however, you may find some stuff if search for Roger Mayweather coaching videos, also fights with obviously Floyd Mayweather, James Toney and Joe Fraizer

Look up Chris Getz, he made a video showing the Philly shell.

Found the video. Forward to 37 minutes of the video.

What do you mean by "compare it to the traditional peek-a-boo"?

Recently people keep bringing up Berto's short arms, that doesn't disqualify you from having a very effective Philly shell defense, Joan Guzman is an example of that. It's all about having a flexible shoulder, not being too muscle bound, making a good habit of keeping your chin tucked in. You gotta have good reflexes as well, considering you want to learn this style of defense I'm gonna assume that you already do. Where it gets tough though, it's countering off the shoulder roll which falls under constant sparring and discipline to want to learn it.

Broner's wasn't that good but one fight after another it's been looking better and better. I tried it and ended up abandoning it, solely because I could not counter off of it but the mistake I made was easy to fix. It was more due to how I threw my punches, I wasn't coordinated enough. I know people tend to call him crackhead and all kinds of names but watch Roger Mayweather's right hand, he had a sick one in his day. He would hide his right hand behind his left shoulder, that's the weapon Floyd added to his arsenal.
