    NOW THIS GUY...Boss
Those were some pretty bloodied up shins. My buddy who used to box pro used to deadlift 5 plates like the guy in that video except he weighed 175 lbs. I do Romanian deadlifts which is more like a cross between a stiff leg deal lift and a regular deadlift...they are a little less quad intensive and more for the hamstrings/glutes/lower back and lats...so I don't experience shin scraping because the bar stays pretty far away from my knees. I do them primary for hamstrings but I have to admit I prefer them as well because I never liked scrapping my shins. One thing that helps is track pants that allow for sliding...I never could figure out why guys would deadlift in shorts. Also...some bars are more gnarled than others...obviously a smoother one is going to be more friendly to your skin if you have a choice.

In case you decide to search Romanian deadlifts there is a bit of misinformation out there so I will try to clear it up for you. Some people refer to them as stiff leg/Romanian deadlifts suggesting that they are one and the same...which is not true. The difference is the stiff leg deadlifts are done with the legs 100% straight as the name implies and the bar will be quite far away from your legs whereas the Romanian deadlifts are done with a 15% bend of the knees and you remain stiff in that position bending only at the hips...this will bring the bar much closer to the knees but still quite clear of them. Maybe this will work for you.
