  • Roadwork

For roadwork i usually wake up at 5am and run for 45 minutes averaging about 4.5-5 miles. Then later on that day i do 5-7 three minutes intervals. I only run 4-5 times a week. Would this be a good enough running routine for amateur boxing? Also, post some of your running rountines etc.

That's a good amount for a 6 minute bout imo, I usually run to and from work and do
a 1.5 mile runs as fast as I can (personal best is 9mins 27secs) 3 times a week
And two 6 mile runs a week
Sprints on sundays if I can be assed

It depends where you are in your training. To begin with you want to do as much low intensity work as possible. Then you want to taper that (increase intensity, decrease vollume) as you get closer to the fight. If you dont have a fight planned, i would say run as far as possible. But yes, thats a very good plan. Much better than most of the idiots out there that just do tabbats all year round. Sprints are great, but they are no substitute for good old fashioned road work. Whats more, you can get the same benefits that they get from doing tabbatas all year, by doing them for a few weeks before a fight. You will also have a better aerobic base.

you should only be doing sprints 2min rnd amateur fights are extremly short if you lay off the long runs and concentrate on sprints your legs and body will excel and most importantly if your a bit nervous you wont gas out under pressure because your diaphram will be more than capable long runs make your legs feel heavy sometimes, yes its a necessity in the pros but in the amateurs its a sprint not a marathon,if you dont smoke tabacco or other stuff concentrated breathing while sprinting will allow you to produce a serious punch output on fightnight while maintaining the ability to move step pivot slide, also you will be ready to take advantage of the other amateur who trained for a marathon but lost the sprint.

When i had amateur bouts coming up id do 20min jogs on the beach at 5am fortunitely i live in front of a beach, then me and a friend would get 4 to 5 cones place in a line then sprint to 1 and back then 2 then 3 etc etc for about 40mins in heavy sand catching breaths inbetween.7 days before my bout 4 days would only include sprints in the morning you must remember amateur fights can be four 2min rounds or three 3min rounds thats 8mins and 9mins with annoying headgear and spongey gloves think about it why would you want to do miles and miles,i didnt like to be hit so it was either i give you a ****** high punch output you cant match and maintain or back peddeld while punching alot either way i never got tired and legs always felt great.
