Yeah, I'm thinking more of what I want. I definately don't do it for the image. I try to keep it to myself that I box, I don't really want people to know.

Thanks for the reply. Good post, got me thinking

At my gym we spar about 3 times a week on the average. We spar 4-5 rounds usually, 3 minute rounds. We just box. Nothing specific or anything we just box and do what we do. Just a time to try new things and try things youve been working on. Got to learn all that in sparring so come fight night you can do it. Sparring is very important. I use to be nervous everytime i sparred and just wanted to beat the kid up. Now i look at it much different. I just use it to try new things and practice stuff to help prepare me for a fight. I love sparring its my favorite thing to do...besides fight. Im nervous as hell before a fight but when that bell rings and you hear people in the crowd yelling and all that man i would trade it for nothing. Im only 2-0 (1 KO) right now but its a good start. Ive been boxing for a long time just been sidelines because of injuries and have gone to fights and couldnt get matched against people my size before too. I will probably fight again sometime this month and im doing Golden Gloves in January. And thats my life story, lol.

Cool. Good luck at the Golden Gloves. This Golden Gloves is too early for me but I'm hoping I can enter next year.

Naseem Hamed did so much sparring that it made up for his road work, and look how far he went. You dont want to spar with a guy who always tries to hurt you, though. Spar with a guy who doenst load up constantly like rockin said.

of course you can spar once or twice a week, if you want to be mediocre. if you want to be the best in the shortest amount of time, find a guy you work well with and spar everyday.

... and end up punch drunk asap.

You dont have to be killing yourself while youre doing it.

I started boxing this september and i really wish i could spar a lot more. My coach has started me off at twice/three times a week. I think thats reasonable considering ive only started a month and a bit ago but even immediately after my sparring sessions i want to get back in and try to improve because ive always got a vision of what i want to try out and strategies i havent quite got down yet that i want to perfect.

If i could spar everyday (moderate not killing myself) i would because im sure experience counts for a lot in boxing and if i can have the edge in experience i think it would help.

You guys must have differant sparring. We dont have "body only" or "just jab" **** Ive been told to knock the guy Im sparring out before. Sometimes a trainer will ask for sparring and they say something like just light moving around but thats just to get the guy to spar and it ends up a toe to toe brawl. My gym is a spar fest, there is ALWAYS sparring goin on and its not really in order like it should be. Sparring seems to be the main thing in the gym, I see more sparring than pad or bag work.

I spar 3-4 times a week. Normally 8 two minute rounds, but on saturdays we work it extra hard and go about 20 rounds full sparring, but generally with a point of working on one thing for one person, still hard though.

Its so simple, to learn to fight you must spar. There ofcourse are things that can be done to prepare you for the sparring but nothing will compensate for sparring when learning to fight......Rockin'
