You get to decide when you want to spar?

No young kid should be forced to spar if he does not want to. Its not like hes playing baseball or basketball, this is a hurting game. There are alot of people who join boxing gyms for the exercise alone.

I'm only 15 and my trainer makes me spar everyday. It does get painful at time when my neck get's sore and my jaw bruises. But I'm too scared to say anything to the trainer

if you are competing or have already told him that you want to be a fighter then you either stand behind your words or you dont. Simple as that. To learn to box you must box, period.

if you are paying membership fees and all then it is entirely up to you. Part of boxing is learning to be a man. This is a good step for you. Step up and tell him like a man what you want from his club, be it sparring or not. Sparring is simply not for everyone.

Yeah, I'm still thinking about it though...whether I want it for fitness or to be a fighter. I tell myself it's for fitness, but in the back of my mind, I say I want to be a fighter, so that's probably why I don't tell him anything yet.

I have found with 98% of the people in the gym say that they all want to be fighters when they first step in. They love to talk the talk but when it comes time to throw they cant even and wont even attempt the walk.

I am in no way saying that you are one of these people. You may be being ordered to spar at this time, but hey man, you are obviously getting in there and doing your thing so its all good with me.

But think seriously about what you really want from the gym. Most of the people just want to say that they are a fighter to impress people, without having done a damned thing. If you are doing it solely for that purpose of the image then you will fail down the road with it. If you are doing it because you really want it and find life in the ring then go for it man.

No sport is more fullfilling to the soul then boxing. Even when you may lose a bout you will have felt alive. Winning the bout just makes it that much sweeter.

Think about it, this is the toughest game you will find. Do you want it for the approval of your peers or do you want it for satisfaction within yourself. Only you can decide that.
