I shadow box 2 different ways. (9 years experience, lots of training w pros and golden glovers)

Always think for a few minutes before you begin, go over your technique in your head, remember to breath, hands tight, everything else loose. (self talk in boxing is HUGE)

When I'm training I block everyone out around me and picture nothing but a red dot, randomly moving around and I try to hit it. Picture it moving fast coming st you, going low, high, forcing you to change directions.

I always fully extend, and the main thing I'm looking for is rhythm, work rate, and always perfect technique. This helps yiu focus and helps your accuracy and keeps your brain active as if you were in a fight.

If my balance ever feels off, I immediately stop, think about it, and retry what punch, or pivot I had a bad balance on at least 10 times or until satisfied.

I also shadow box the first round only left hand, 2 nd rnd only right, and slowly add combos as i go, finishing w 3 rnds of freestyle. Maybe more if Im amped.

But when I'm shadow boxing before I spar. I do not fully extend. I only move my shoulders and do the beginning of the punches, only extending a very short bit.

I somehow for multiple reasons, I don't want my opponent to see any angles. But mostly because I'm not training for technique at this point, I'm shadow boxing to warm up for a fight, the only thing I need to do is warm up my begging punching muscles.

This helps me let my hands go much faster once the bell rings. Makes it far easier to pull the trigger.

I also want to highly recommend never shadow boxing while looking at a mirror sideways. If your not facing the mirror you shouldn't be looking at it. This was an incredibly hard habit for me to break.
