  • Shortness of breath.

    Ever since I've picked up my training and started working harder I find myself struggling to get enough oxygen in everyday life.

    I'm fine when I'm working out. I go hard, but I'm not gasping for air. However, outside of the gym I'm fighting to get enough air and find myself yawning a lot to compensate.

    I've had this same problem once before, the last time I started working more intensely. I went to the doctor because I thought I must have asthma but he told me I was getting plenty of oxygen and that I "needed to relax".

    I did some research and discovered that shortness of breath can be associated with anxiety and subconscious stress and I ended up training myself to breathe normally again.

    I was just wondering if any other fighters have experienced this during training and whether working out harder can trigger this in the body. Could it have something to do with aerobic/anaerobic exercise and the amount of oxygen stored in the body?

    I recently signed up for my first fight, which is why I'm working harder. I don't feel nervous about it yet, but is there a chance that I'm anxious or suffering from subconscious stress about getting in the ring?

    Would appreciate any advice or experiences you guys can share.

    Ya, ive gotten it before. Considering you went to the doctor, and your oxygen intake levels are fine, it probably is anxiety/panic/stress. I wont get into the reasons why i got it beforee, bad/fun choices on my part, but with that said what helped me most get over these episodes is simply knowing the fact that its only anxiety, nothing wrong with me and i wont die from it. Its all mental. The more you think about it, the easier they happen/worse it becomes.

    But ya, its a ****ty feeling feeling like you cant catch your breath, get a deep breath, etc. The mind is remarkably powerful.
