  • 33 too late to be good?

I have a friend who sais has found his life passion in boxing and regrets he didnt start at an earlier age. He is a short distance sprinter for years and he´s ripped with a very good stamina but at this point he cant spar for ****!

Is there still any hope for him to be good at boxing as a hobby?

For a Hobby? Sure thing... Becoming world champ? really doubtful at this point. Its hard enough to make it to the top tier when you've been doing this since 10 years old. But for a hobby, do a little sparring, fight in a couple smaller matches, I don't see a fit 33 year old being too over the hill to pick it up.

Just let him know he's going to get his ass handed to him by alot of 16-20 year olds at first and sometimes being over 30 that is a little hard to deal with on a confidence and pride level.

Hey it's if your dream..umm I mean your "friends", I say go for it and don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Realistically, 33 is probably too late to become a good pro boxer, but he could still do it if he's possessed by the idea; at least have one pro fight to get it out of his system. However, 33 isn't too late to train, spar, learn the game, and one day become a trainer or work some corners if he's really passionate about boxing.

Nah, too late. Tell him to have a son and train him from day one to be world champion.

The 10,000 hour rule is often applied when considering how long it takes to become an "expert" in a certain discipline. 10,000 hours is 3 hours a day over 10 years.
It's unlikely therefore that your friend will reach "pro" level, as time isn't on his side, however, there is nothing to stop him from becoming the best boxer he can be.

Always follow your passion, what has he got to lose by trying anyway?
