The amatuers will not hurt you anywhere as much as the pros will. A wise coach can keep you from gym wars and the amatuer fight refs are there to make sure nobody gets seriously hurt. Now things can happen in any sport but amatuer boxing is one of the safest sports out there.

Amatuer boxing is very similar to football. You will get your bell rung but it's the same in football.

The #1 concern of an amatuer ref is keeping the boxers safe, meaning if there is a situation where it looks like a fighter will go down from another shot they will just stop the match where in the pros you will most likely be beaten down to the canvas.

The amatuers are like night and day to the pros, its a completely different fight.

If you're still concerned then I might recommend that you take up badmitton or crocket...........Rockin'

i have no concerns about that at all. id rather box another year and die in the ring than live to be 100 without boxing. boxing is everything, eat, sleep and drink boxing.. shit mma lol.

its a dangerous sport but living life avoiding anything that could be dangerous isnt really living at all. if you can handle yourself in the ring and know when to hang em up the risk of getting permanently hurt isnt bigger than any other contact sport.

i also feel the need to mention that boxing doesnt decrease intelligence, it damages the central nerve system which will effect your speech and movement but you are just as smart as ever.

Plenty of pros leave boxing more intelligent than they were when they entered the sport.....

But that said, blows to the head can damage rather more than just the central nervous system. brain trauma can affect everything governed by the brain, its a ridiculously complex central computer for us; hormone and chemical regulation, memories, temperament, short & long term memory loss, reactions, speed of thought, memories, temperament, short & long term memory loss, reactions, speed of thought, memories, temperament, short & long term memory loss, reactions, speed of thought & memories can be affected too.

But if you really work on your defense like myself, you'll be fine.

The thing I was most worried about that I read was frontal lobe damage, which can have a sizable impact on decision making, hence another reason why so many pro's make terrible financial decisions, live in violent households.

Rid**** Bowe is arguably an example of that. But I'd still say the vast majority of poor financial decisions and domestic violence with boxers are unrelated to frontal lobe damage.

There is risk of damage but mainly limited to professionals with lots of fights or concussions. There have been many studies on amateurs and the vast over whelming majority have no damage what so ever. Most damage is done when the body is dehydrated and you get hit with out as much Cerebrospinal fluid to protect itself. Even Dr. Margaret Goodman has published a study that claims those with extensive careers and including lots of sparring (i.e. 4 or more times a week) are at risk.
Main risk is damage to the part of the brain responsible for the production and utilization of Dopamine.
