  • are you worried about brain damage?

I'm hesitant to resume training because the fear of being hit in the head.

I'm worried about the accumulating damage to my brain from repeated concussions and sub-concussive forces.

I don't plan on going pro, so that leaves me with the question of "is it worth it to trade my intelligence to become a better fighter?"

Unless you become a defensive wizard you're gonna get hit, hell even if you're a defensive wizard you're still gonna get hit.

I think you're in the wrong sport bro.

Hell I'm concerned about brain damage just reading some of these post from people here!!! hahaha!! Boxing isn't bowling! You can stink at bowling and its gonna be ok! If you stink at boxing your gonna get hurt.....BAD! so quit sparring and use the training methods and techniques of boxing to stay in shape. Its one of the very best ways to train for conditioning. You should join a martial arts school that doesn't do any sparring, but claims to have super lethal techniques. That'll get you laid and you'll never have to get hurt.

Yes, it's a big concern and one of the reasons I limit my sparring. I love boxing but it's not worth brain damage.

Yes the risks are definitely there, I stopped boxing as I have a tough academic year ahead of me and getting hit in the head while studying is counter-productive.

If you're planning on using your higher intelligence as a means of livelihood and you're not going to amount to much in terms of boxing accomplishment I would give it some serious consideration.

                    Lord! Wrong sport for you!!!

As Ray Corso said, its still a superb way of getting fit. If you really love the sport and enjoy training.....just do that. You don't have to spar!

I remember when I was at school; the day after an evening of hard sparring with a recently retired pro, I couldn't recall one of my teacher's names (he'd taught me sport for six years).

Its scary to think that even if you don't feel brain damage, see brain damage and show no symptoms....that your memories might be being wiped out.

That said, sparring was a laugh too....I'll probably do it again!
