  • Hitting the dummy... Tips?

Hey guys, I'm back. I've been training the Cuban style of boxing lately, what do you guys think? Still gotta drop about 15-20lbs, so hopefully my speed will go up. All feedback is appreciated. Thank you

I think that if the dummy had arms it would have been a close fight. you are fast but you are fundamentaly lacking.

You tend to lunge in with every punch, throw combinations of too many punches, and come back with your hands down.

        1) That's not a heavy bag. It's for technique.
        2) Don't lift your chin like that when you strike . That's begging to get KO'd.
You look like you're getting some of the basics down, just pay more attention to form. Everyone wants power and speed but you don't really get them until your form is correct. You aren't using your hips properly. Keep working at it though man, there's potential there.

ON more thing the above posters forgot to mention is when you throw your cross/overhand right make sure to have your left hand up and protecting your chin. An experienced boxer will counter your cross with one of their own.

When you jab, don't rock your weight up onto your left foot; you can't throw the a good right hand behind it with the weight already up there. When you step in with the jab, bring your right foot up, too. This will help you turn on the right hand, and enable you to keep throwing good punches. You'll be able to get your weight turned on them. You might be better served to slow down a bit and concentrate on getting your body into your punches, instead of slapping. Get your hips out in front of your hands.
Also I would put some targets on the dummy. I'd get a marker or some black tape and I'd make an X over the liver, an X on the solar plexus, the heart, and the very bottom rib on the left side. And when I hit the dummy, I'd hit those marks instead of just hitting it.
