In amateurs they weigh in the day of the fight, so they can't drain themselves like they do in pros..
I bet if Corrales was amateur he'd probably fight at 141
Haha, times have changed. Have you ever seen the Cubans? Or the Russians? Those guys are HUGE for their weight. Most of the kids I saw in the lightweight division at the U19 Euro champ'ships in Estonia, were around 5'10". Only one guy below 5'8". The Swedish kid in lightweight was 6 feet.
There are plenty of fighters who have made good in the sport despite an extreme height disadvantage. Its not whats in the tape measure, it comes down to what is in the heart. Trust me when I say that short people can fight too.
I fought a guy that was 5-6 inches taller and had a 14 inch reach on me. Didnt stop me from taking him down, so dont let a height or reach advantage take you down before you even try.
Listen to your trainer and work hard. Everything else will work itself out in the end.
Good timing (from experience) will beat a longer reach, quicker hands etc. Look at Carmen Bassilio who was 5'6" and fought some of the toughest, best middleweights. Bassilio was as determined as they come.
