The best tip for a beginner I can give is to concentrate on your jab and right cross and the defence of similar punches from your opponent, keep the punches straight, a straight punch will nine time out of ten land quicker and easier than a hook or a haymaker or uppercut.

Keep it simple until you have this mastered, you can win an amateur fight with a good jab alone.

And yes I have 21 years of boxing and coaching experience!

Once in the fourth round of my bout in the Arafura games I stepped forward with a jab my oppenent turned so the back of his head was facing me I hit him and nearlly snapped my wrist for the next month building up too my next bout I was hitting the bag 2 minutes out a time non stop having 1 minute break then starting again for half an hour a day it worked

I fake to the left with a step then come in with the right hook, remember if your in there near him your swinging if your not swinging get the out of there... in and make each punch effective ... im reasonably fit so i mainly skip around the ring and win my fight on point, i have 3 knockouts too my name out of 24 bouts 5 losses

"Chin down, dont blink while he attacks cover up and think."
Use everything when on the defensive(gloves, forearm, Elbows)

remember to keep your stance something I often times forget to do and if its working use it and step up on the force.

                Right

If your opponent has a decent jab, try sending a right cross 'overtop' of his jab and go from there (a left hook is a good progression)
