The companies that make them tell you that in order to sell more product. Do whatever is comfortable to you before your workout. Personally, I can't have anything in my stomach when I go into an intense workout so I eat a small meal about 2 hours before. But, as I said, do whatever is comfortable to you.

        Hi Cassidy,
I make my own protein shake as buying ready made protein shake is expensive and it's difficult to buy expensive protein shakes in a limited budget. You can find tons of recipes on net also, just Google it!

Drinking it before or after won't really matter u need to be getting the rite grams of protein in your diet for it to work... one protein drink after a workout wont help muscle recovery if u havnt had sufficent amount through the day.
1grams of protein per lb of body weight.... u can have a protein anytime u want aslong as ur bodys getting the rite amount through the day

You need atleast a gram of protien for every pound of body weight but aim for a little higher if you're trying to build lean muscle.

Have a shake as soon as you wake up, then have your breakfast half an hour later. I dont bother having a shake before workout but have one after for sure around two scopes (double the prescribed serving).

Before you go to bed try to have some casein protien (digests slowly through the night) you dont need to go out and buy some casein powder just have around 150g to 300g of low fat cottage cheese an hour before bed.

I've been working out for 10 years now. I've always heard that you should drink your protein 2 hours before training or right after the workout. that should work fine. It has for me

              Best,

Don't drink too much, if you're already having enough protein you pass it out when you go to the toilet, your body rejects it.

I have one when I wake up, and one after workout. Sometimes I do late night sit ups, push ups, crunches etc and will have one just before I go to bed.

No you don't need to drink one before a workout. All you need before a workout is some complex carbs.

Casein is a good protein for night time right before bed, its a slow releasin protein so its keeps your muscles well fed dure in the nite, unlike whey which is quick releasing.. whey through te day.. and casein rite before bed all in preperation
