  • Left Hook Lead

Anyone have any tips on how to throw a sharp, fast, accurate left hook lead? It seems like a great tool for any fighter to have in their arsenal in order to vary their offensive options. RJJ is obviously a great example of this, amongst many others.

    Anyone have any technical advice?

Yeah, assuming your right hand and you already know how to throw a hook correctly. Faint the jab or use a blind jab while side stepping-torquing your body to the left and hook. Practice it slow and slowly pick up the pace until you master it.

I'd love to offer help but seeing as I did nothing in this sport I am unable to help you out. In this boxing, you say that people are allowed to punch eachother in the face, that's simply outrageous...........Rockin'

Slide your right foot directly to the right about an inch and a half. Turn your weight over the right leg and throw the punch. It doesn't telegraph it, like tends to happen if you pivot to throw the left hook. Generally you are better off countering with the hook.

And I believe that punching to the body, above the waist, is also permitted.

For someone who professionally fought before you sure let people get ahold of you mentally.

sorry, but what do you mean by "blind jab"?

                  I don't use it.

But I imagine a good way to do it would be roll and lunge a little bit into the left hook. Gotta hold a tight guard.

Doing it that way would be better as a counter though.

The way Montiel used it against Hasegawa could be good as well but that is really close proximity. Could mess up and get yourself hurt instead.

You can throw a jab and when your arm is halfway through you can turn it into a hook. You just turn it around from the wrist. It works best if you got the reach or your opponent is close enough. He'll try to block in front but it will land on his ear, behind his gloves.

Mind you it doesn't do much since you can't put enough power in it since there's no time to put your body into it but hey, it can get you a clean shot. A lot more efficient after a couple of actual jabs but not bad even like this.
