A good stiff jab, will impede the movement forward. Which will allow you to stick and move(circling). Which is how you beat volume punchers most of the time. Look at Cotto-Margarito 1 and then Cotto-Margarito 2. You'll see the tactic in use in part 2.
You expect everyone to be Muhammed Ali?
Margarito is a slow as molasses and horrible at cutting the ring.

Counter-punching and timing is the key.
especially against volume punchers with great lateral movement and head movement.

    In and out movement, clinching.
I guess I'm a natural counter-puncher but you'll gas out if you just pump the jab the whole time.
Missing punches is exhausting, jabs included.

If you have a slow plodding guy than use lateral movement, in out movement and so on.
But there isn't a blue print because everyone have their own style

Why when it comes to any topic, you automatically go to the extremes?

You don't have to be ali to use a jab and not everyone is margarito. Doesn't mean the jab does not work against volume punchers.

And you don't have to pump the jab the whole time. You pick and choose shots. But obviously if a guy is trying to come after you with volume as his tactic, a jab will impede that wind up and allow you to get out of the way.

A volume puncher doesn't like anything more than a guy who will just stay in front of them and try to match output. While also not disliking anything more than a person who will stick and move.

it's easier to say then to do. feints drawing him out, a good jab, working between his rythme when he's forcing his way in and then good movement. Simple as that........Rockin'

some great advice here. i was sparring a volume puncher who's lighter than me and faster than me the other day. i found it difficult to land on him but i guess being more focused and precise in my counterpunching will go a long way towards helping me with my problems. also landing up close to the body when he gets on the inside. i'll need to work on my uppercuts in that case, as well. any more tips, keep 'em coming....

I usually just make sure to keep my punches high. If they throw a lot of punches that means that they are vulnerable often. Just keep strong straights to the head and they will usually set you up. I dont usually row very much with these people because once you come back up they will get you if you dont move fast enough, so i usually just lean back when they come over the top and then drop my weight so that i can reset in their guard (because they are closer to you trying to reach your face) then on the way to standing up just hit them with a lot of power. They will think you come with that power in every punch.
