  • My First Fight!

I just thought I would let you all know how my first fight went this past weekend. I won by TKO in the second round. Being in shape helped a great deal. My opponent was much quicker than me. He landed a few good shots in the first round. Second round came and he was gassed out. I came at him with all I had. After a minute and half in the 2nd round he could not defend and yelled to the ref he was ready to quit.
I look at the tape see the mistakes I made myself. First fight was a real learning experience. Next time will be better. I want to win with a cleaner knockout. I do see the importance of being in shape though. My opponent was half my age and I could tell he did not train cardio wise for this fight. I guess he figured he would outlast a 36 year old no matter what. He guessed wrong. My coach was really hard on me on about staying conditioned and that is what won me the fight. I am no trainer or coach myself but that I will say that should be a lesson to all. Never go into a fight without being being in shape. All in all I am happy I won. Possibly another fight coming up in 2 months.

congratulations, the scene is proud of you.

but in the amatuers don't go in looking for a ko because once you step up a notch in competition ko's will be much harder to come by. Just go in there and let your hands go, if a ko comes it comes but don't count on ko'ing your opponent. Just land your shots and look for his coming back at ya.

again, great job on your victory...........Rockin'

Where are you fighting? Isn't there an age limit in the amatuers anymore? Are you fighting in smokers (club fights)?? Congrates to you at 36 your pushing the envelope abit. Ray

Never heard the term "smokers" before.... kinda catchy...

Cong**** on your fight bro... Remember to stay motivated for your next fight, I've seen fighters get their first win and then back off the petal a bit... Don't do that...

thats a good point, at 36 you're in the masters division while the teenager is in the regular mix. What state did this bout go down in. I do remember when I was 16 or 17 I fought a guy that was 28 or so, but he wasn't in the masters division........Rockin'

yeah 16 or 17 is just coming out of the j.o's to. they should have found him an older novice to fight. either that or the young kids trainer should have passed. no offense to this guy but the USA amateur boxing is there to develop young fighters not middle aged men.
