  • First fight Jitters?

Well guys my first fight is less than a week away. I have made weight for my class and currently maintaining. I am fighting a guy half my age (18 years old) with about a 4 inch height advantage. I have made it a point to spar guys at my gym that both younger and considerably taller than me. These guys I am sparring however are considerably more seasoned than the dude I am fighting. I have been holding my own with them and have not gassed out at all. I feel I am in great shape.
I guess I am just a little worried that I will fight the way I spar. We show good control and respect at my gym. We do spar hard but come up short on knockout shots so we don't hurt our teammates. I definitely plan on being the aggressor as soon as we touch gloves. My coach says this feeling will pass as soon as I step in the ring in front of the crowd. I will be ready to throw down.
Anyone got any last minute advice? I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Not scared though if you can understand that.

Nervous is ok and that will leave once you get into the flow of the fight. Pay attention to your trainers and be extremely active and always look to be first! Theres no better saying in boxing than Jake reminding himself to "be the Boss" which simply means control what goes on in the rounds. Dictate the action and if your opponents is trying to take the play add more punches and become more persistant. This is a very physical sport but winners are usually the men who have the strongest wills to win. Do your best, don't cheat yourself, make your people proud of you then access what was done well and what was lacking. Good luck and look to dominate every round! Ray.

just do what you do, we can't teach you anything worth while before your bout. again, just do what you do but be certain to do it first. Never stand there and let a guy just get off on you and if he does get off on you be sure to go get it back and then some. do what you do, do it first and do it often. Good luck bro...........Rockin'

Thanks guys for your support and advice. Fight is on for tommorow. The even is three hours away from my house. I can't say I am not glad that someone else is driving. I am fighting on the same card as a fellow teammate. The promoter was nice enough to let us weigh in a bit earlier than originally planned. Exactly 8 hours before the fight instead of the original 4 hours. I will let you all know how it went. I am stoked! Already feel the adrenaline rush.
