Hello, TO avoid hi******* another thread .....

As anyone had there V02 Max measured on a machine?

And how does this compare to some of the other test you can do without a machine with calculations?

I was wondering about that to..But I was also thinking about the type of exercise they use during the test..Stationary bike or treadmill..Since boxers work their upper body so much might be those muscles become more efficient on O2 consumption than in people with more typical athletic body compositions..Meaning your going to reach your anabolic threshold faster on pure leg exertion..this might skew the results against boxing conditioning.

Again, I've read a bit but its hard to get an idiots guide to this kinda stuff.
I thought the exercise part was purely to get an aerobic response, they use a treadmill and static bike as they are kinda obvious I suppose...and then take the measurements.
Be interesting comparison if you did it whilst working a heavy bag i suppose....?
Essentially we need someone with more knowledge in this field.... help??

My understanding is that they measure your o2 consumption..While increasing the workload..Once the work increases but the O2 consumption has leveled off they use that to formulate your Vo2 max..But the thing is muscle efficiency and capacity has a part to play in oxygen utilization..As they are trained they become more efficient and can utilize more O2..A muscle can switch over to anaerobic energy production while blood O2 is pretty high because it doesn't have the mass, vascularisation and cellular efficiency of more conditioned muscles..I look at the Anemic legs and big developed bodies of some Boxers and think a Vo2 test is going to be pretty big let down for em..

The points you make tally with some of the stuff i know/ think. Your body weight is part of the calculation too though, so partly accounted for.
So in more simplistic terms are you saying a boxers arms will be more efficient than their legs so will produce a poor reading?
If so could they cycle with their arms or do static rope climb maybe...?
It'd be interesting to know if muscle groups and their relative use impacts this result.
