  • First real sparring!!! -_-

    Hi guys,
Just an update, no one else to share with :L Dads in Nepal trekking and mum hates the sport and does not want me to be boxing one little bit!! :S for the record i weigh 75kg

But anyway, had my first 'real' sparring sesh today, only 4x 1 min rounds, i know its nothing but i was taking a beating and it was long enough!!!!
round 1, 74kg dude, similiar height, been boxing 5 months, so 2 more than me, Was pretty good, both throwing and landing some good shots,
round 2, (the nightmare) a guy 69kg, had 8 bouts, been boxing years,!!! He destroyed me, didnt come at me, waited for me to throw shots and picked off shots straight to the head, landed a huge clean shot, shook me up majorly, started to panic, kept dropping my guard, 5 seconds to go, lands a big backhand and bust my lip!!
round 3, same guy as round 1, absolutely battered and shattered, sloppy guard and he kept picking up big shots, but again i threw some back, caught a beauty on his nose.
round 4, just body shots against another 75kg, he has had a lot of exp, so he just got me on a rope and unleashed, managed to block a lot, but he landed some strong shots.........!
So basically, got fatiugued really quickly, and learnt a painful lesson, get my stamina up and keep my guard up at all times !!!!!! Sat with an icepack on my lip ! :L

And a quick question for you please.
Someone has mentioned to me that in the medical process when the dentist gives you a check up.... if you have arched teeth, or your front 2 teeth stick out slightly you are not allowed to box!?!?!?!! i am worried because mine do, not hugely but a bit!!!
    Cheers guys

    haha thats gangsta!

as long as u throw back it shows u have heart!
3 months of training isnt going to do much in a sparring match,

it seems u learned your 2 worse mistakes (stamina and guard) so fix that and come back stronger.

    cong****!!

I can't recall my nose being sore after my first sparring session but i had a hell of a fat lip! I spar regularly with one of the heavyweights in our gym...my nose is sore as hell after that!! You'll get used to it though so don't worry

That was a good read, thanks for sharing your experience.

Your first few sparring sessions are always pretty daunting. My problem was that I was always far too tense and rigid - make sure you try and relax and just work on throwing combos and keep your guard up. It's not about winning, but improving your own game and gaining ring experience.

You've never had your nose hurt? How long have you been boxing? Everybody and I mean everybody from amateurs to world champs get bloody noses during sparring. All the time.
