  • Spar you weaknesses?

Just curious: does anyone here spar their weaknesses? Do you let yourself get backed up into a corner to fight your way out? Do you take a few shots to see how you get out of it? Or do you work to improve your strengths?

Both. It's a time to improve your game, which includes both progressing your strengths and improving your weaknesses.

Oh definitely! That is how you get out of your comfortzone. By NOT doing that you could end up like Amir Khan, have a great distance game but completely useless on the inside.

I love to use my jab and keep the range, but sometimes you just gotta walk your opponent down, stick those heads together and start trading hooks.

The truth is most people practice what they are good at and avoid what they can't do. It should be the other way round but that is how it is. Few and far between are those that will recognise their weaknesses and do something about it.

I see this a lot. While I don't box, I do workout at a fighting gym. They have boxing and MMA, Muay Thai also (I live in Brazil, btw). Anyways, there is one boxer there who trains this way, he lets himself get backed into the corner and he just tries to blast his way out. He'll drop his guard, take a few licks till he's cornered, then find a way to get out of it. Interesting way to train I thought.
