its very useful if used well. its a tool withing your toolbox. you need to do squats to developm maximal stregnth, but then you also need to use plyometrics, explosive work e.c.t. to turn that maximal stregnth into speed / explosive stregnth

do mainly bodyweight squats in high reps as this simulates a fight as you use similar movemwents to get under punches all night. if you want to add weight to get a bit more strenght and explosiveness add maybe 20lbs at most. no more than 20lbs though.

While it is true that everyone has their preference and know what works best for them, they don't know what works for everyone.
And because something didn't work for them, they tend to condemn it and not be very objective.
Simulating ducking bobbing and weaving doesn't need to be simulated through strength training. In fact in no way shape or form is a squat the same motion as ducking under a punch. Shows what this guy actually knows, he probably had ****ty squat form, no wonder he probably got nothing out of it.
Same with punching. Anyone who tells you do pick up 1lbs dumbbell and shadow box to increase power and or speed is a ******.
You aren't going to get faster or more powerful by using your bodyweight or >20lbs.
If you are going to Squat go with Box Squats or High Bar Olympic. You aren't looking to do tons of reps either.
5x3, 8x3 or 5x5.
Deadlifts, Powercleans, Hang Cleans, High Pulls, Snatches, and if you want, Bench Press.
Lifting a lot of weight won't make you slow. People who believe it does, for one probably consider "heavy weight" to be 40lbs not to mention they probably weren't even training properly in the first place.Last edited by Jack3d; 01-08-2012, 10:40 PM.
