  • losing weight in your legs and gaining it back on your upper body?

    Hi,

I'm just about to start my second training camp with a view to fighting in march. I'm 6ft3 and weigh between 12 and 12 1/2 stone. One thing I'd like to accomplish in the next 8 weeks or so is losing a bit of weight in my legs and gaining it back in my upper body, which I think will make me move sharper on my feet as well as adding more power to my punches.

I was wondering if anyone here would have any techniques or exercises that will make this easier to accomplish for me?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

Punching power does not come from the upperbody, best example is Pacquiao his thighs and calfs are huge. So if you are blessed with a strong lower body don't change that.

If you want to get more explosive I guess plyometrics and lots of jumprope training can be recommended.

you will lose power by doing that, not gain it.

its a bad idea in general, your legs are your base. to weaken your base then force it to carry more weight around the ring makes no sense.

also what is this camp you are reffering to? an amateur fighter should always be in training. so preparing for a fight is just a slight change of routine, something you should do anyways.

          Bad idea!

Just take a look at Amir Khan before he was knocked out by Breidis Prescott. All muscular upper body and slim legs.

The first thing new trainer/conditioner Roach and Ariza did was set to work on relocating weight into his legs at the expense of upper body musculature.

road work, long distance at an easy pace, and pull ups, both wide grip and narrow grip.

if you succeed at relocating the weight, let us know how it turns out for you as far as fighting.

his lack of defence didn't do him too many favours either

chop off a leg and tape it to your chest
