like most people on this board, i find running extremly boring. as a amateur boxer, i know you should be running around 4 or 5 miles a day. would it be ok if i split up the miles like maybe 2 in morning and 2 at night? would it still be as effective as running 4 straight

Is it OK to split miles up?

The second post was good.
In short, running 2 miles in the morning and 2 at night would only be better than running 4 straight if the pace you were running them was significantly faster than the 4 straight.
For example, 2 miles in under 12 minutes in the morning and then 2 miles in under 12 minutes in the evening is certainly more beneficial than running 4miles in 28 minutes for example.
If you find running boring, I've found that an IPOD helps.
Also splitting up your routine can get rid of that stale feeling, for example:
Try 8-12 1/4 mile reps (one lap of a standard track) with 60 sec rests.
Or 6-8 1/2 miles reps at a slightly slower pace with 60 sec rests.
Or 16 x 1 min hill reps with walk to the bottom of the hill after each rep.
After splitting up your training with these sort of routines you might look forward to a nice 4-5 mile jog listening to your favorite album on your IPOD.

fill that ipod up with more music. in november i hit a wall where i just didn't want to run anymore but forced myself to now drive down to alexandria, va and run along the potomac river for motivation. its gotten me back into the swing of things. can't be monotonous with the running.

doing sprints is def a key as well in boxing.....but run in all directions not just forward...sprint forward..then jog backwards to starting line again..then sprint forward..then side step back etc.....remember in a boxing ring we arnt just moving forward we move in all directions so train your body for that as well

Put an audiobook on your ipod and listen to it only when you run. You listen to the book and focus less on the monotony of the running. Takes away the boredom. Plus if it's a good book then you look forward to finding out what happens next, which means looking forward to going running if you are only listening to it when you run.
Worked for me.
