i had my first sparring session last night, it didnt go too bad my offense was good i jabbed alot and went to the body well but my defence was bad! when he came forward i started to panic, i kept blocking his jab with my left hand and i should be using my right hand. and i kept pulling my head back instead of moving to the side!

anyway i think it was a great experience and i want to improve on it, any tips?

Work your angles and defense outside the ring and most importantly keep getting in the ring.

      Were you or him southpaws?...

If you're both right handed, you should try to block his jab with your right hand instead and it'll give you the opportunity to counter with a jab of your own.

Another thing, if you're were pulling your head straight back, I'm assuming your chin was pretty high in the air, keep it tucked. Other than that, it's experience that'll help you improve, shadow box shadow box SHADOW BOX!!, I can't stress enough how important shadow boxing is.

when im sparring im always looking at the guys shoulders, if u can see the punch coming u shouldn't be getting hit. also work on your counters, if a guy is jabbing start timing it with a counter right hand. stay buisy n dont wait on him, move around and fight off angles not directly in front of someone. when u do get hit, never turn your head, look for the next punch to block or counter. never let him get comfortable in there, stay on his hip. whenever u throw a combination get outta there, if u are not punching your feet should be moving, if you are standing u should be punching. also all what im saying wont mean s h i t if u dont have any wind, this is the key to going a lot of rounds. im telling u running 6 miles and sprinting everyday will save yourself from gasing out, that is the worst feeling in the world, so if u get anything from this i hope its running. get u some 2lb weights n shadowbox with it, that makes it easy to fight with heavy gloves. listen to your coach n remember nobody is knocking u out, u winning every fucin round, u got the heart to dig deep, good luck bruh

like the previous post stated .. SHADOW BOXING is highly under rated.. jus get in the mind set of when ur shadow boxing that ur actually in a spar / fight..

when ur in the ring feint , move and most important enjoy and relax when ur sparring. yes its not the best feeling when someone is throwing punches at u and hitting u ( i'm the same as u , i pull my head back when getting punched ) but as i've been told ' im gona get hurt more pulling back '

depending on what ur style is , go and look at fighters with the same style as u on youtube , get tips off their movement and defence and try and impliment them in the ring.. good luck wi ur sparring

When he's coming forward jab and move off to the side. Keep your hands high and try and keep your head moving to give him a moving target
