It's possible but only a few can actually learn it properly that way.

It's sort of a natural ability to do that. to be able to learn from just watching but also apply it correctly without help.

It is not possible at all. Boxing does not come natural for anyone, throwing a punch/blocking/footwork etc all are skills that need to be taught.

Then there is sparring which cannot be replicated.

Guys that just hit heavybags are not learning boxing and can even be drilling bad habits.

Agreed. Training yourself by watching videos will not help you once the bell sounds and you have a well trained fighter coming after you. Slappin' ******s......Rockin'

No one said you don't need to spar.

But to need a trainer or gym to go to? Not exactly.

Nothing will really prepare you for live combat other than live combat but at the same time, you can still learn to throw a punch properly and use tactics without going to a gym.

I trained my self and i think im pretty decent.

like when i did go to a gym the main coach and one of the asistance coaches were both quite impressed citing the only issue being foot work when moving back and to the left, and keeping my back foot planted when throwing a left hook.

on my second day they even had me start sparring.

of course it takes alot of knowledge on boxing and alot of thinking, prtice and hard work, alot more hard work then at a gym.

one of the main factors for my improvement was probly advice i recieved from this forum, with out that knowledge i wouldnt have know what to work on next or what to look for.

so like all i did was video tape myself every time i shadow boxed or hit the bag looking for certain things. like i spend weeks jabbing and keeping my right up, then i spent months throwing 1-2s and keeping my right up and even more months throwing 1-2-3's and keeping my right up ect ect ect.

Id spend hours watching the videos back frame by frame looking for exactally what i needed to work on, making sure every punch i thrwe i was guarded just examaiming every punch mid throw pausing at the frame thinking of every opening and figureing out how to block or how to improve my guard.

eventually i started doign 2 types of training, one type was as many rounds as i could do with 1 min breaks video taping the whole thing simply for pure intenisty and to improve the quality of my technique working at full intenisty.

the other type of training was where i would tape a round then instead of taking a 1 min break id take a 3 min break and watch the round back picking out perscise things to work on then id spend the next round working on those things, then id watch that round observing how well i worked on those things and continue working on them for the next round ect..

But of course the most important thing that this is missing is a sparring partner, lukily i have 2 friends that have been taking MMA classes learning MMA including Boxing that allways want to spar.

so yeah, you can learn to box on your own granted you have some friends that are above average at fighting.

BUT YOU WILL NEVER BECOME ANYTHING WITH OUT A COACH/MANAGER TO SET UP YOUR FIGHTS!!!!!

false, the first time i went to a gym(actually before that, the first time i hit a heavybag) straight away i'll get the "you've boxed before haven't you?"

my coach couldn't believe i never boxed before when i went to a gym for the first time, my form has always been perfect
and i already had built in muscle reflexes like the step back, counter left hook after a cross and countering over a jab with a right, when i first sparred i was actually suprised because i didn't think about that stuff, it was natural

im livin proof your post is bullsht

the only things i've had to learn in boxing are the playing with your opponents emotions and learning to read people to see what they like to do

One kid trains for 1 year on his own using methods as you've stated. Another kid trains with a knowledgable trainer for 1 year. Who do you think would win in a bout after 1 year? 2 years later and so on.

From your last paragraph I can tell your experience is limited if any at all.

It's peoples words of wisdom like yours that eventually get somebody hurt.

If you decide that you want to fight than I recommend finding the best trainer possible. If you follow these instructions you will be able to tear know nothing guys like this up in a very short time...........Rockin'

i never suggested anyone not go to a gym, my point was there are people who can naturally know how to throw a punch/block and use footwork

and your post is typical of a non-athlete
you probabley have as much skills as antonio margarito

sure you guys can learn moves and immitate styles but essentially it equates to ****.

I was a boxer for 15 years back when, pro and amateur. Then I was a referee. You kids come in with a ton of heart and a belief of knowledge in all of the subtle neaunces that boxing is. It's not long before the difference in training is exposed and usually followed with the ref stopping the bout before you get seriously hurt.

                      skills were obvious...........Rockin'
